36. What We Wish We Had Known

In this week’s episode, the guys talk about those things that teachers here in Korea wish they would have known before coming. Jack went into several expat and teacher Facebook groups asking teachers to share some of those things. The responses he got were incredibly helpful and elucidating. The Seoul Patch hosts would like to offer their gratitude to those who were willing to take the time to write down a few comments and provide interesting perspectives for us to talk about on the podcast.

If you are teaching in Daegu and want to learn Korean, you can check out this blog regarding Korean classes at the YMCA: https://teachershannon.wordpress.com/category/ymca-daegu/

The following are some important telephone numbers for foreigners living in Korea:

I heard one host mention they didn’t have a US bank account anymore and had issues.
I had a similar problem, so I suggest Alliant Credit Union. They can create accounts for expats by using your SSN or TIN. They’re an online-only bank so no branches but no membership fees.
There are a few other ways, like with Betterment, but you might need a home address (or parent’s address) to make them work.

    1. Thanks so much for the advice. I (Jack) will definitely be checking into that. This is exactly what I was looking for. Cheers!
